Brew Master – Tim Keltner

The equipment that we have is in good order. Tim reports that the loaner equipment list is located under the Learn To Brew link on the home page of flopsclub.com.  If you have equipment to donate you can drop it off at the Home Brewery where the club stores its collection. We are looking for gaps in our inventory of equipment. $200 budget not yet spent but will be soon. If you have a recommendation for a piece of equipment that you would like to see in the loaner kit please let a club officer know. Please be kind and return the kit promptly so others can utilize it.

Ambassador at Large – Keith Besonen

Returning from a trip to Southern California.  Best beer tasted in SoCal was Firestone Walker’s Union Jack IPA, 7.5% ABV, 70 IBU, with Centennial, Magnum, Cascade, Citra, Chinook and Simcoe hops, which Keith is happy to report is available in Missouri just across the border at Macadoodles.  Another good find was Smog City’s Sabretooth Squirrel Amber Ale which was much more complex than your average amber. Best brewpub that he tried was the Santa Barbara Brewing Co. the only stinker that he tried was in Rancho Mirage at Babe’s BBQ and Brewhouse.  Andy Sparks moved that the club cover the check bag fee for Keith if he is willing to bring back beers from his travels.  The motion was approved.

Education – Brad Schmidt

Brad presented the benefits of utilizing a hop spider when brewing.

BJCP Style Guide – No style presented at this meeting.

Old Business

Sammy from Apple Blossom Brewing Co reported that the winner of the FLOPS Club brewing competition had been selected.  Keith Linn finished third, Andy Langston placed second.  Congratulations to our first place winner Matt Milliren for his Belgian light ale.  Thank you to all who entered.  Apple Blossom graciously awarded all participants a 32 oz. growler fill in addition to the first, second and third place awards previously mentioned.

Club Social.  The club brewed beer for Big Brew at the Home Brewery.  The beer is ready but needs to be packaged and carbonated.  Perhaps it will make an appearance at the next meeting.
